U.S. Supreme Court nominee Judge Robert Bork In Toronto plugging
his new book this week, the controversial conservative judge slammed
Canadian judicial activism, lamenting the fact that judges here have
the power to override legislation that should be honoured in their original
intent. Thus, challenging legislation that bars benefits for same-sex
couples is a bad thing, as is contesting dismissal based on sexual orientation.
According to Bork, the new generation of what he calls the elite,
intellectual class of judges are ruining the concept of self-governance
and are imposing on the electorate their own ideas of virtue.
