Bad, dirty, murderous meat

In recognition of next Wednesday’s annual International Great American Meat Out, the Global Action Network is sponsoring PETA co-founder and animal rights heroine Ingrid Newkirk to speak at Concordia on the evils of a carnivorous diet.
“The Great American Meat Out is a day of action and awareness where concerned parties around the world organize to educate the public on the realities of factory farming,” says GAN spokesperson Andrew Plumbly. “Newkirk will be coming here to address what can be done to combat the situation, which is to go vegetarian.”

As a former Maryland deputy sheriff, Newkirk had an impressive record of busting animal abusers. As an anti-meat-eater, she has probably done more than any other single animal rights activist to raise awareness of the miserable lives factory-farmed animals must suffer through in order to meet the public’s insatiable appetite for Spam and other delicious meat products. A particularly gifted speaker, Newkirk’s free lecture is entitled “Ten Billion Reasons to Change Your Diet,” which, when you think about it, sure seems like a lot of reasons, so it’s possible she might be on to something.

According to Newkirk, not only is the consumption of meat bad for the environment, even worse for the animal whose bones are getting picked at, but apparently it’s not so great for your health or waistline either. Imagine that.

The event takes place at Concordia’s D.B. Clarke Theatre in the Hall Building on Wednesday, March 20 at 7 p.m. :
