Crossing gourd

Haitian-born Montreal artist Marie-Denise Douyon’s new show, L’Art à Palabres, features art in a variety of forms, drawing on a variety of traditions. Working largely on calabash (a hard bottle gourd that can be used as a drum or a drinking receptacle, among its other non-art uses), Douyon’s engravings, drawings and paintings draw on the proverbs, fables and songs of both African and American oral traditions. At Mdlc Rivière-des-Prairies (9140 Perras) through March 31. Info: 872-9814. :
