New wave

In conjunction with UNESCO’s International Year of Dialogue Among Civilizations, and just in time for Black History Month, Black Theatre Workshop is presenting Sea Change, a multidisciplinary reflection on the effects of the slave trade through history. A screening of Michael Jarvis’ film Angelique, the story of a young woman slave accused of setting a devastating fire in Montreal in the mid-18th century, will be followed by storytelling by Chimwemwe Miller (who also MCs the event). Nah-ee-lah performs spoken word and the young dancers of YouthWorks perform Zab Maboungou’s choreographies. Also, travelling group photo exhibit Portraits of Contemporary Black Montrealers will be on display. At Maison de la culture Côte-des-Neiges (5290 Côtes des Neiges) Feb. 9, 8 p.m.; at Mdlc NDG (3755 Botrel) Feb. 16, 2 p.m.; at Mdlc Plateau Mont-Royal, Feb. 23, 8 p.m. Info: 932-1104. :
