Not the network sitcom

On Friday, Feb. 1, New-York-based Montreal native David Deitcher will deliver a slide lecture on his book, Dear Friends: American Photographs of Men Together, 1840–1918, a benefit for the Quebec Gay Archives. In his talk, Deitcher will demonstrate how common it was for 19th-century males to have their photos taken together to celebrate their intimate friendships.

Deitcher, a critic and historian whose articles have appeared in Artforum and Art in America, will present slides made up of selected images from the book, which has received wide critical praise since its release last year. The event takes place on Friday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. at UQÀM (315 Ste-Catherine E., room 120). Tickets are $10 and available at Androgyne and Priape. :
