Life’s a glass

>> Vanessa Yanow on her multi-disciplinary life

by MARK SLUTSKY

Vanessa Yanow’s got a lot going on—the local artist is right now preparing for an art show, blowing glass, making hemp products—not to mention the art gallery she’s opening with partner Jon Tinholt later this month. The way she puts it, though, “At this point I’m primarily a glass-blower and a painter.”
An exhibit at Art Sutton next month will see those two pursuits combined. “Right now,” she says, “I’m working on a series of paintings of old tools on rusted metal. I’m working with the glass and the rusted metal as well, making forms with the two.”
And did we mention the gallery? “We felt kind of spoiled by the quantity of the landscape we acquired,” she says of her and Tinholt’s big new Park-Ex living space/workshop. So the living room will soon double as a gallery, with its first show opening later this month, and lots of events to come. :
