This multi-media art party by KOPS Productions promises live sets by Bad News Brown and Rhythm Mercenaries, a beat-boxing session by Abra, DJs Maysr, Naes, Who-see, Jaber, Dare, Specter and more. Listen to the sounds and check out the murals, installations, sculptures and live painting all night long. Fun starts at 10:30 p.m., all for a $12 donation.

Dance 2001 away in style with the Bad Boy Club of Montreal, whose Bal Des Boys blasts off this year at the newly renovated, “spectacular” Rialto Theatre. BBCM favourites DJ James Anderson (NYC) and DJ Jester (Mtl.) provide the house soundtrack, while BBCM dancers do a special presentation for the midnight countdown, at which time there’s sparkling wine for everyone, courtesy of Le Château. The dress code for the event, which runs from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., is black and white. Sona’s big Blast offers three rooms and a slew of DJs for all you serious party people. The main room features Chris Fortier, Max Graham, Kal, Philgood and G. O’Brien, while the bar has Awen J. and Maus. The hip hop room showcases Orion, DJ Crowd, Fabulous, Kwite Sane vs. the Earth Quake Sound Crew, Kid Solja vs. Spazmodik and Toddy Flores vs. the Rookie. This 18-hour event boasts “superstar DJs” Cevin Fisher (of NYC’s Tommy Boy), who’ll kick things off and ring in the new year with a set from 11 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., as well as Sandy Rivera, Fred Everything, Luc Raymond, Nic B and Yaz. All this is in the main room. The urban room, meanwhile, has Ody-Rock, Short Cut, Mike Mission and more. Tickets for this baby cost $65, and are available at Aritmetik boutiques, Music Hall, BPM or Admissions.

For the colossal party to end all colossal parties, the Molson Centre has NYC’s David Morales, local heroine Mistress Barbara, XL and Eddy Jasmin. Over 18 only please, and be prepared for mandatory searches. Also, take note that “514 productions promotes a drug-free rave culture,” “alcohol sales, if applicable, end at 2:30 a.m.,” and food and non-alcoholic bevvies will cost extra. Yes, it’s the big, crazy, multi-mood party brought to you by Tiny Productions/Neurochill/
Urban Sound Resistance. The three rooms in this as-yet-undisclosed venue include “acid-techno” with DJs Bando, Android, Popeye, Silber Kästen and more, “acid-tribal-tech-trance” with DJs Solar Quest, Neerav, Nuclear Ramjet (live), Rickam, Mana-7 and more, as well as good old jungle and drum & bass with Capital J and MC JD, Stabba & McIronie, Jackbeetz, Krinjah, Corey K and more. Tickets are available at Musik Hall, DNA, Rotation and the Arithmetik boutiques, but call the info-line for further pick-up locations in Montreal and elsewhere. The price is $45 before Dec. 28 and a whopping $75 after the location is revealed, so get your head together and plan.

This New Year’s Eve, Living’s main room hosts Frank Famery and DJ Loco, while Ghost takes over the Vodka Lounge and Special K chills out the R&B Lounge, all topped off with special effects by Lightmaster Zak. The bar is open from 9 p.m. to midnight, but you can dance the night away until 3 a.m. The first 150 tickets are $35, the next 250 are $40, so beat the rush and avoid the hiked-up mystery door price.

Step into 2002 with this supersonic, stereophonic house party! Stereobar, open from 9 p.m., features DJs Nav Bhinder & Patrick Dream from Bombay Records, as well as Trevor Walker and Rob Brown—that’s four DJs for $20. nTRAD FESTIVAL

Café Campus and La Bolduc present the second annual Trad Festival leading up to NYE. Dec. 26 has les Batinses, an eclectic six-piece who incorporate dance, Quebec “funklore” and a “trashditionelle” ambiance. On Dec. 27, enjoy Norouet, an acoustic band whose influences range from jazz to Celtic to Scandinavian sounds, along with les Langues Fourchues. Dec. 28 showcases la Chasse Galerie, a rhythmic rock/country/jazz-influenced band who are mixing things up with their new member DJ Pocket. Dec 29 has the Henri Band, now 10 years running with their “rock ’n’ roll de campagne,” as well as the many hyper moods of Mauvais Sort. All shows start at 8 p.m., and a pass for all four nights costs $25, while individual tickets are $8 plus taxes and services.
On Dec. 31, however, Café Campus hosts the biggest family party in town with resident DJs Niko, Bo and Jean-Philepe. Enjoy cheap family fun with a buffet (complete with a massive turkey), cheap drinks and lots of surprises. The hoe-down starts at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are $10.

You’re in for a pleasant surprise at this Plateau watering hole this year. The normally chilled out, chat-with-friends bar is being converted into a dance club for one night only.
