Gay Games come to Montreal Beating out Chicago, Atlanta and Los Angeles, Montreal was chosen as the site for the 2006 Gay Games last week--the largest sporting event to come to town since the 1976 Olympics. Thanks to the city's gay-friendly reputation and tolerance, Montreal will welcome over 24,000 athletes, attract 250,000 people and rake in $150-million in related spin-offs. This was the city's second bid for the games, losing 2002 to Sydney. The Games, it should be noted, are open to all athletes, regardless of sexual orientation.

The provincial government's health-hazard apathy The PQ admitted last week it knew a band of northern Quebec Cree was being poisoned by toxic filth in their water, but did nothing to stop it. The Environment Ministry didn't act until the Cree, alarmed at the number of deformed fish they were catching, called up an American researcher to take independent samplings. The findings were alarming: they contained high levels of cyanide, arsenic, mercury and other heavy metals. What is even more alarming is the revelation that these findings matched the government's--taken over two years ago.
