Are gay men over AIDS?
>>
by Matthew Hays
Some 15 years after the AIDS epidemic first hit the gay community, debates over safe-sex practices and their promotion continue to rage on among scholars and educators. With the advancement of protease inhibitors, drug cocktails which have prolonged the lives of those struggling with HIV, many have argued the AIDS crisis is over.
Detractors point out that unsafe sexual practices are on the rise, such as barebacking, and also criticize the massive circuit parties for the role they allegedly play in the continued spread of HIV.
Discussing these and other issues is Eric Rofes, the noted author of nine books, including Dry Bones Breathe, his '98 exploration of issues surrounding barebacking, the circuit and other sex debates. Rofes will speak as part of the Concordia HIV/AIDS Lecture Series tonight, Thursday,
Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. at the Hall Building (1455 de Maisonneuve), Room H-767. Admission is free.
