Getting to know you
by Genevieve Paiement
"Do you believe that all of us were placed here for an important, specific and precise reason?" This is what curator Kat Coric is asking with Identité, the fifth annual Black & Blue exhibit and auction. Artists were asked to create self-portraits that communicate their own special, intensely personal message to the world, to highlight their individuality while fostering solidarity. The works have been donated to the BBCM (Bad Boy Club Montreal) foundation that donates the proceeds to AIDS charities.
During the auction, the victims of the terrorist attacks in the U.S. will be commemorated and Roger Thibault and Theo Wouters, who had the misfortune of being targeted by homophobic aggression in the suburb of Pointe-Claire, will be paid tribute with the unveiling of a top-secret artwork. At Hotel Gouverneur (1415 St-Hubert), Gouverneur Room 123, Sunday, Oct. 7, 4 p.m. Info: www.bbcm.org.
