Talk-show acrobatics
by Marites Carino
"A high-flying, drop-dead, late-night talk show turned inside out." That's how choreographer Debra Brown describes her most recent multi-disciplinary project, On Air.
Brown, a former gymnast, has worked as a choreographer with the Cirque du Soleil for several years. With On Air, she combines the circus arts with dance in a satirical look at pop culture. But in particular, Brown targets the popular institution of the talk show.
The evening is complete with a host, music provided by the Funky Cool House Band, and a whack of multi-talented guests. Her company, Apogée, includes local and foreign specialists in contortion, aerobic dance, trampoline, martial arts and tango. Brown started working on this show last November and says the final result is "a show about shedding layers and getting to the skin." At the Théâtre Outremont (1248 Bernard W.), Sept. 28-30, 9 p.m., $20. Info/tickets: 790-1245.
