Eclectic avenue

by Marites Carino

Imagine my surprise when I discovered an exhibit called Le Tour de Villeneuve, going on right under my nose, on my own street. Put on by Fovea photography collective, it's happening outdoors and in businesses along Villeneuve and St-Laurent. Taking the 14-location tour made me enter shops I had never noticed before. Like the musty pharmacy (corner of Villeneuve and St-Urbain) where artist Loren Williams has scattered her work, or the antique shop around the bend with the quilt by Gail Paslawski.

At the Rachelle-Béry health food store (St-Laurent and Villeneuve), pick up a postcard by Nicholas Amberg or participate in some interactive art requiring a stamp. For a challenge, keep an eye out for Susan Coolen's work. Maps are available at participating businesses in the area. Free, lively guided tours happen Sept. 28, 5-8 p.m., departing from Sergent Recruteur (4650 St-Laurent). The exhibit, part of the Mois de la Photo, runs until Sept. 30. Info: 287-1412.
