St. Joseph's Oratory's new look The famous Montreal landmark, with its towering staircases and steep slopes, announced it will undergo a massive refit to make the complex more wheelchair- and elderly-friendly. The plan's blueprints, which have yet to be approved by the city, will also limit parking to the 400 spots at the base of the slope, smooth out the slope's plateau and either move or demolish some of the secondary buildings. Proper public consultation has been promised and, in a bonus for taxpayers, the $40-million project will be financed entirely by donations.

McCafés Applying their tried and tested McFormula to McEspressos and McCappucinos, McDonalds's Canada has opened up a McCafé at McLongueuil McMetro to compete with the other café franchises flooding the city. It's bad enough that Starbucks, Tim Horton's, Second Cup et al have cornered the café market with their ubiquitous outlets; now Montrealers have to cope with the Mcunion-busting McMultinational joining in. The McCafés originated in Australia in 1993 and have since spread to 18 countries. Two other Canadian franchises are opening up in McOntario and McBritish Columbia.
