Calgary Remarkably, the city that gave us the Reform Party and Talisman oil is breaking new ground in energy conservation. The city's light-rail transit system is set to become the first wind-powered public system in the world next month, and will be refitting its streetlights with dimmer bulbs. Officials estimate converting the LRT to wind power will cut carbon-dioxide emissions by 26,000 tonnes annually. By refitting streetlights, the city estimates 18,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions will be cut annually within six years. New lenses will focus the light on streets and sidewalks, rather than into homes or the sky.

Young Quebec Liberals Our square future leaders? Voting to reject marijuana decriminalization--and thereby prolonging a futile and costly prohibition policy--at a two-day convention over the weekend by 110-83, the youth wing of the Quebec Liberal Party looks increasingly out of touch with their peers. With talk abounding these days about marijuana's medical benefits, decriminalization for recreational use seems the next logical step. Is this what we as voters have to look forward to in 20 years?
