Leisurely launch

Yvette Poorter and Lance Blomgren are part of an international roster of artists in an exhibit called OASIS, at the Liane and Danny Taran Gallery of the Saidye Bronfman Centre. Its all about leisure, doing nothing--a perfect theme for a blistering summer.

Poorter and Blomgren, who've published a number of tasty artist's books under the Intrepid Tourist imprint, are co-publishing the OASIS companion book. "It's not really a catalogue," says Blomgren. "I guess you could say it remixes images from the show." With images by Poorter and texts by Blomgren, the book incorporates works from the show, including contributions by Toronto duo Instant Coffee, Australia's Tracey Moffatt, and locals Sheridan Shindruk, Euan Macdonald and Ana Rewakowicz.

"It's a visual narrative with an allusive or urban Western theme that runs through it," Blomgren explains. The launch, including music by turntable and guitar duo Seratonin Re-uptake Inhibitors, is at 5170 Côte Ste-Catherine, Aug. 16, 6-8 p.m. Books are $10 at the launch, $20 thereafter.
