The whole concept of installation art--the manipulation and alteration of space--is inherently involved with the surreal. It makes perfect sense then that someone should put on an installation show dealing with the essentials of the medium: the multi-layered nature of reality. Six local artists--Catherine Bolduc, Cozic, Johanne Gagnon, Eric Ladouceur, Eric Lamontagne and Denis Rousseau-- make up the show Passe-Passe, co-production with l'Art qui fait boum! at the Maison de la culture Plateau Mont-Royal. The exhibit explores surreality, hyper-reality and alternate realities.

Each of the six artists has a different spin on the subject and they provide a good variety of approaches to the theme. Ladouceur goes the comedic route with his photo installation "Ballade en terrain de jeu," while Lamontagne goes for hyperreality is his faux-bedroom installation, "Passez au salon." Gagnon goes in a different direction and gives us a neat lesson in form and physics in "Jeu de formes #3." At 465 Mont-Royal E., until August 25.
