All that jazz

by Vincent Tinguely

This Sunday, the last Words and Music at the Casa of the season is diving into the free jazz/improvised music spirit of the Primo Festivale Suoni Per Il Popolo. Three of Montreal's finest young performing poets, Kaie Kellough and Rhythmic Missionaries alumni Jason Selman and David Neudorfer, will explore the realms of multi-vocal jazz rhythms. "We'll be exchanging and complimenting one another's poetry with our voices," Kellough explains. The set will include a mix of voices on the theme of The Future, and Selman's trumpet will spice up a few of the pieces.

The show also features improv wordsmith Alexis O'Hara, poet Ian Ferrier with Bryan Highbloom on sax, and moody tunesmith Kenny Smilovitch. All poets are invited to float their verse on the sounds of Montreal improv giants Jesse Levine, Andre Asselin and Will Glass. At 4873 St-Laurent, June 17 at 9 p.m., $5 cover.
