Canadian Medical Association Journal It seems lately that CMAJ is taking a socially active new direction, descending from the ivory tower to speak out on a variety of issues that could well do with its input. Several weeks ago, the journal published an editorial in favour of decriminalizing pot. This week, mass media has latched on to CMAJ's call to regulate the use of cell phones in cars: "We need to regulate the use of cell phones and other driver-distracting devices," the journal expounds. Bad teeth It's possible that Quebec smokers are more offended than other Canadians by the photos of decaying teeth gracing cigarette packs nowadays. Maybe because the image hits a little too close to home. Fluoridation controversy aside, the Ordre des dentistes du Québec reveals that this province boasts the highest cavity levels in the industrialized world. In fact, it would seem that Quebec also has a higher number of middle-aged toothless folk, according to a study in the Journal of the Canadian Dental Association. Maybe it's time to start paying attention to dental hygiene. Brush brush, swish swish.
