All aboard for anarchy

by Mark Slutsky

Publishers, activists, filmmakers and rabble-rousers of all stripes will be on hand for this weekend's edition of the annual Montreal Anarchist Book and Freedom Fair. Guests from all over the world--like U.S./U.K. publishers AK Press and the Parisian Radio Libertaire--are expected, and in addition to the books there'll be a zine area, an alternative media room and a special room showcasing activist filmmaking.

Other subversive treats include a whole host of workshops, a benefit supper and two exciting shows the night of the event. The Casa del Popolo (4873 St-Laurent) will host performances by 1-Speed Bike, Norman Nawrocki, Jesse Levine and Eric Craven, while L'Alize (900 Ontario E.) will see Tomas Jensen and La Chango Family take the stage. The fair itself will take place at 1710 Beaudry from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and is free; both of the evening shows are $5 a pop.
