Another kind of bloc party

Never mind Chapter 11, if you're still all stoked from the FTAA demonstrations and are looking for a truly important cause to rally behind, the annual worldwide march to repeal the laws prohibiting the sale and consumption of marijuana is set to go down this Saturday at 12 p.m.

Conveniently departing from Parc Émilie-Gamelin (formerly Berri Square), just a stone's throw from the infamous pot dealers who rip people off at the Berri metro station, the march will head east along Ste-Catherine to Champlain before finally returning west along Ontario, culminating in a rally in the park just behind the Place des Arts concert hall. Any pothead who has ever purchased a bogus .4 count from some foggy-eyed pusher-man in the Berri metro will understand why it's so important to take to the streets in support of easy access to quality legal reefer.

Organizers are expecting roughly 10,000 righteous doob smokers to turn up for the event, which is scheduled to include performances by Groovy Aardvark among others. According to Marc-Boris St-Maurice of the Bloc Pot, to date the police have been remarkably cooperative in the coordination of the march but he warns that industrious pot dealers would be smart to exercise discretion if they intend on plying their wares to the assembled hordes.
