Dancing in the dark
by Marites Carino
Local poet and artist Armelle Chitrit brings something entirely unique to the dance world this week: Chitrit transforms writing into movement through sign language, song and physical interpretations of Braille. The sensorial experience that is Poème pour lettre du corps en chant Braille is set to original music by Alexandre St-Onge and poetically brought to life by dancer Élise Bourgeois-Guérin and actor Alain Lefebvre. At Tangente (840 Cherrier,) May 3-5, 8:30 p.m., May 6, 7:30 p.m., $15, 525-1500.
With the arrival of spring comes the end of the school year and a chance for dance students to strut their stuff. In Disparus... pour êtres apparus, students from Les Ateliers de danse moderne de Montréal perform choreographies by José Navas, Serge Bennathan and excerpts by Jean-Pierre Perreault, Lucie Grégoire and Paul-André Fortier. It's all free, but call for advance tickets as space is limited. At the Maison de la Culture Frontenac (2550 Ontario E.) May 3-5, 8 p.m., 872-7882.
