Mile-End parties on
>>
by Naomi Bloch
In typical Montreal fashion, we've leaped straight out of winter into warm summer temperatures, and what better occasion to break out the naked flesh than a good old-fashioned street party?
To be held this Saturday, April 28, with the support of over 20 local organizations, Mile-End's first-ever Harmony Festival is an tree-hugging extravaganza of workshops and performances, staged to end Earth Week with a bang.
Get a first-hand account of last week's Summit mayhem from some SalAMI activists, learn how to nurture a tomato plant on your north-facing balcony at the Balcony Gardening workshop or check out the multicultural array of performances such as Polish folklore ensemble TATRY, Baladi dancer Ana Ruiz, or the African folk sounds of Youssou Seck.
"Most of the events will be inside St. Michael's Church, but outside we're going to have sidewalk chalk drawings, informal music, some demonstrations--possibly a kung fu workshop and also an electric scooter demonstration," explains the event's chief organizer, Amber Samsom. St-Viateur will be closed between Waverly and St-Urbain from 11 a.m. and the street sounds will be broadcast on local pirate station 90.7 FM. For more details head to www.MileEnd.org.
