Different dance worlds collide at Tangente's Majors series this weekend. Putting established choreographers in the spotlight, the evening offers a taste of dance from far and close to home.
From far away, dance company Tranzdanz offers two work, by Hungarian choreographer Gerson Peter Kovacs. CULT and CO AX are part of a trilogy that speaks of life, power and human interaction in physical and mental spaces.
From closer to home, Quebec company Théâtre Kafala takes the movements and sounds of the traditional 17th-century jig, and use them as a base for Pied à terre. This rhythmic choreography uses voice, percussion and projections to explore the folkloric practice of this dance.
And don't forget, April 29 is International Day of Dance. So keep your eyes peeled for dance in unexpected places.
TranzDanz and Kafala are at Tangente (840 Cherrier) April 26-28, 8:30 p.m., April 29, 7:30 p.m., $15. Info: 525-1500.
