All the world's a stage

by Amy Barratt

The central character in Nick Carpenter's play Stained Glass is a church: the cathedral of Ste-Cecilia, in Bellemare, France. The epic project by this National Theatre School graduate takes place in three time frames: the 13th century, the First World War and the present day. In collaboration with Playwrights' Workshop Montreal, Stained Glass will be given a public reading at NTS on Saturday, March 24, by 12 actors from the school along with six professionals.

Carpenter's most recent contribution to the theatre scene was the political "kabarett," Nine Songs for the Middle Class, co-produced with Infinitheatre last December. PWM is holding the reading in conjunction with World Theatre Day event, even though that unmoveable feast is officially on the 27th of March. Check out the Canadian World Theatre Day Web site at www.worldtheatreday.com.
