Yeah, babee!

Well, the results are in and the powers that be have spoken. It looks like Montreal might have yet another hip hop crew that's poised to turn some heads in the near future. Montreal's own Butta Babees performed in Toronto last year as part of the Canadian Music Week showcases, which assemble thousands of bands, labels, industry types and fans at various locations throughout the city. It's official though, as the Butta Babees have been named Best Unsigned Band at CMW 2000. The crew, made up of MCs Ziplocks and Manchilde, has built a following for themselves in Toronto after blessing the city with their often-organic but always conscious flows. This is definitely a case of T.O. suckling Montreal's Babees, but it won't be long before the rest of you get a taste. Look for a new four-track EP coming soon.

Keep your eyes peeled for all the out-of-town skate and snow reps that are going to be in town for the next few days as part of an NSIA trade show right here in the city. As part of that very show, Vice magazine and Timebomb are throwing a party at Living on Monday, Feb. 12, called Overload. Not one, but two floors of strictly hip hop, reggae, R&B, old-school, breaks and rare grooves. Room one has the likes of DJ Devious, DJ Raw, and DJ Blast, while room two boasts the Brass Knuckles, DJ A-Trak, Obscure Disorder and Dave One. Advance tix are available at the Vice store, located at 58 Pins E., for only $5.

Mass hysteria last week at Sona when Little Louie didn't show for his anniversary slot. Never before have I seen so many clearly upset people in one place. Eventually, everybody forgot and managed to have a good time anyway, but don't be mad at Sona. Louie apparently broke his leg and was understandably detained. Better luck next time.

Maybe you heard about the ruckus that went down in Detroit last week when visiting rapper Everlast decided to call out his best buddy Eminem while in the middle of his sold-out show. After finishing the song "Jump Around," immortalized by House of Pain, he launched into a vicious rant that included everything from Pringles (who are using "Jump Around" for an ad campaign) to Limp Bizkit, for whom Everlast claimed to be the blueprint. "I did that shit back in '92!" He proceeded to dis D12, Eminem's side project, calling anyone in the crew of "morons" onstage for some open mic. After no response, he then started to sing his next song and was quickly interrupted by three members of D12 who jumped onstage, ready to break shit up. Chairs were thrown, mic stands chucked, and a crazy fight with St. Andrew's Hall security left a few guards bloodied. Everlast made a hasty retreat into the wings. That's all we need. A couple of high-profile white rappers to bring the issue of hip hop violence to top story status on Access Hollywood. I can't wait for the Grammys, can you? :
