Moboungou's boogaloo

It's no surprise that Zab Moboungou's contemporary African dance piece Mozongi is steeped in the rhythms of her homeland. The Franco-Congolese dancer/choreographer also happens to be an author, composer, philosopher and teacher who tirelessly explores themes of ancestral roots and memory. Mozongi (which means "those who come back" in Lingala, a Congolese language) is a piece for four dancers and two musicians. In the Cinquième Salle of Place des Arts (175 Ste-Catherine W.), Feb. 2-3, 8 p.m., $15-25. The photo exhibit of the same name, featuring Mozongi rehearsal shots by Marc Verret, will be up in Place des Arts' Corridor des pas perdus until Feb. 5.
