Light eating
by Amy Barratt
Ah February, that special time of year when Hydro-Québec lights up the downtown core in celebration of the huge January bills they've just sent out. That's right, it's the second annual Hydro-sponsored Montreal Highlights Festival.
The festival happens on three fronts: performing arts, culinary arts and "lighting arts." This year, the performing arts emphasis is on dance, but there is a smattering of theatre. Infinitheatre's production of Food/Bouffe, by Byron Ayanoglu, is cross-referenced to both the performing and culinary arts categories. The former food critic's play portrays the World's Greatest Chef giving a televised cooking lesson.
The hook is that each night, the play will be sponsoured by a different chi-chi restaurant, and following the performance, patrons will be treated to a sumptuous meal from that restaurant's kitchen. The play will be performed some nights in English, some in French. The English opening is sponsored by Milos; the following night's French premiere will feature a menu from Le Club des Pins. Feb. 8-18 at Le Lion d'Or (1676 Ontario E.). Tickets for show and supper are $75. A limited number of tickets for the play only are available at $20, or $10 for Infini members. Info and reservations: 987-1774, ext. 104.
