    >> Plasticman Antoine Laverdière's bright ideas

    by SARAH MUSGRAVE

Creating a lamp out of Tupperware is not as seamless as it looks, especially when it's made of 15 different containers. "I worked on the concept for a year and a half," says designer Antoine Laverdière. "I tried glue, I tried screws, then I realized it should all fit together like the containers themselves."

The resulting pieces, which play with transparency, shapes and colours, are the signature product of Polygone. The local video, photo and design firm was founded a year ago by Laverdière, his twin brother Mathieu and Nicolas Lepage. If interest from New York and Europe is any indication, things look bright for the company. In addition to planning for Montreal's Design Month in May, they intend to produce a line of easier-to-assemble monochromatic lamps for speedier shipping. Look for them at Espace Lumière, 1081 Van Horne.
