What many have long suspected has been confirmed by a new Crop Institute survey, the results of which were made public this week. It seems Divers/Cité, Montreal's gay pride celebration, generated an estimated $40-million in economic offshoots for the city, attracting over 100,000 tourists who came specifically for the event.

Divers/Cité organizers and Tourisme Montréal officials were elated with the results, which reconfirmed their faith in the pink-dollar power of gay pride. Tourisme Montréal continues to aggressively promote the city as a gay tourist destination.

"The spinoffs generated by Divers/Cité show that the tourism industry is crucial to the Greater Montreal economy," says Tourisme Montréal president Charles Lapointe.
