Landlords vs. tenants

I agree with Christine Haesler ["Landlady's lament," Letters, Nov. 23] that most landlords are not bad and that some tenants take advantage of the system. But the fact remains that landlords on average still have a higher income than tenants. Besides, in the case of the Mackay-street evictions, 30 tenants were locked out of their apartments and rendered homeless without an eviction order issued by the city or the Rental Board. Also, none of the tenants seem to have been taken to the Rental Board for nonpayment of rent--perhaps because they all used to pay their rent. They couldn't even go back to retrieve their belongings. Ms. Haesler, being a landlady, should recognize injustice when she sees it.

Not pro-Martin

In the Nov. 16 issue of the Mirror [Social birthday," the Front], the Social Justice Committee was described as "having their fingers crossed" hoping for the re-election of Paul Martin.

This is absolutely wrong and damaging to our reputation as an independent organization advocating for human rights and elimination of Third World poverty. Although we have met regularly with Mr. Martin, this is in the context of our position that the global market system does not serve the needs of most people in the world, who are living in poverty. We certainly do not endorse Paul Martin or the political party to which he belongs.

Local yokel lament

This is in reference to Krista's Stereo anniversary article ["Touched by an Angel" Nov. 23]. I thought part of journalism was to find new subjects to write about to inform the masses, not to repeat the same story with the same boring comments from her best friends from the Bombay label crew. I have nothing against the Bombay crew, nothing against Stereo, nothing against Angel Moraes, but if I had only found out one new thing in her article, I wouldn't be writing this letter.

In response to this quote from Bombay's Nav: "And we have NYC residents coming to play on a regular basis. That doesn't happen in other cities." Other cities don't have this because they're proud enough of their own local DJ's not to allow foreign DJ's to come and steal their jobs on a regular basis like Stereo has been doing for two years. Wise up Stereo. Local talents know more about moving the local crowds than any Joe coming from NYC. There are more people involved in the electronic music scene in Montreal than the "boys of Bombay" and the "boys of Dune." Wise up!

Anal anomaly

Dearest Sasha: Please note a mistake in your column of Nov. 23. Anal sex is indeed legal outside of a heterosexual marriage, if it is between "any two persons, each of whom is 18 years of age or more, both of whom consent to the act," according to paragraph 159 (2) of the Criminal Code of Canada, available on the web at http://insight.mcmaster.ca/org/efc/pages/law/cc/cc.159.html. Trust me--as a young gay man, I was very sure to inform myself on this crucial issue.

[Sasha's response: I got a letter from a lawyer who says the same thing. I was misinformed! There are a few other stipulations, as well. Thanks for the input!]

Reality, explained

The Cuban "leader" Fidel Castro is not only an aging clown, as said by the Directress of the American-Cuban Foundation, but also a criminal like Ronald Reagan, who took part (together with 71 more mad "monkeys" and "cows") in the assassination of the Egyptian god Osiris (conglomerate of souls/alive disks of Ernesto Che Guevera/Brandon Lee + Jesus Christ and some others "hidden" in the physical body of Bruce Lee as a Trojan horse)!

The misanthrope Fidel Castro was a cousin of the other "leader," Mouammar Khadafi--both are under the control of some Tibetan dwarfs from the parallel world! Regards.
