Dynamic duet
by GENEVIEVE PAIEMENT
It's not like local choreographers Louise Bédard and Sylvain Emard hadn't worked together before (Bédard danced in Emard's Terrains Vagues back in '93). But this is special: not only did the two co-create Te souvient-il?, which they refer to as "a duo interspersed with solo moments," they also get to dance in it. The two dancer/choreographers have a lot in common. Emard launched his company in '87 and Bédard created hers in '90 (both named after themselves). And both went on to make big names for themselves in the contemporary dance scene of the mid to late '90s, not only here in Quebec, but also in France where they've had residencies and performed at festivals.
Inspired by painter Pierre Bruneau (who designed the sets), Te souvient-il? follows two travellers whose paths cross as they "share the memory of a world that is both infinite and minuscule," according to Emard. At Théâtre la Chapelle (3700 Ste-Dominique), 8 p.m. until Dec. 2. Info: 843-7738.
