Remembering the front

One hundred and twenty paintings, drawings and watercolours never before seen in North America are on display as part the exhibit The Colours of War--Art Works by Belgian Soldiers at the Front (1914-18). Whether showing traits of Cubism or Fauvism, the works steer clear of depicting the graphic, bloody horror of war, opting instead to allude to it by painting desolate landscapes and bombed-out ruins. At the Marché Bonsecours (350 St-Paul E.), until Dec. 10.
