by NAOMI BLOCH

Now's your chance to sway to the enchanting rhythms and explore the rich poetic heritage of the Arab nations that flourish in Montreal, at this year's Festival du monde arabe, journées 2000. The action-packed three-day festival celebrates the cultures of 22 Arab countries, including Tunisia, Morocco, Palestine and many others. Lebanese dance troop, Groupe Al-Arz, has been wowing Canadian audiences for some time with their traditional folklore-based choreography coupled with an expressive, modern Canadian style. Groupe Al-Arz will perform Ashakhss, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. World-renowned tenor Lotfi Bouchnak will sing his lilting Arabic stylings, accompanied by a host of Tunisian instrumentalists on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 9:30 p.m. Also taking place as part of the festival is 2,001 Nights, a series of theatrical performances by a dozen different comedians. Get to know an integral part of Montreal's multicultural community, Nov. 10-12 at UQÀM's Pavillon Judith-Jasmin (405 Ste-Catherine E.). Info: 747-0000.
