Heavenly hell

For those who like art mixed with contemporary re-readings of the Bible, check out David Moore's latest offering on exhibit at the Centre des Arts Contemporains du Québec a Montréal. It's entitled La Mort d'un Inconnu and consists entirely of installation work, all centred around a treatise on the darker side of humanity. The show is, in no uncertain terms, a knock-out.

Moore presents us with the idea of paradise lost and the perpetual fall of man in four cycles: "Le serpent retourne sur lui-même," "C'est propre sur les trottoirs du paradis," "La chambre des paradoxes," and "L'homme rêve de transcender sa misère." The latter two are installed in the dank basement of the building and Moore milks this for all it's worth. The effect of descending into the basement, in Moore's expert hands, turns into something out of Dante's Inferno. Life is hell, indeed. At 4247 St-Dominique, until Nov. 24.
