Ciao Eddie!

For those of you who still hang out in the basement at Sona on any given Saturday night, you may be in for a change in the coming weeks. DJ Eddie Lewis, who's been playing all your dancefloor hip hop buttas for ages, has decided to pack in his Saturday night residency. All good things must come to an end and what better reason is there for Sona to try revamping, reinventing and kick-starting the all-night hip hop vibe? Things ain't the same as they used to be.
If you're keen to get your Halloween fix this weekend, you might head down to Stereo for David Morales and Def Mix (NYC) starring in the always-popular Scareo. Doors are at 2 a.m., $30. Also, the boys from Bombay Records move into Kokino for a stab at Thursday nights with Culture starting on Nov. 2. The night will be filled with the music of Nav Bhinder and Patrick Dream, as well as the divine stylings of Kurtis C, not to mention hors d'oeuvres and massage tables. I'm going for my rubdown, are you?
If you missed Brit-Asian sensation State of Bengal when he played with Ram earlier this week, you can catch him at Noize on Thursday, Nov. 26 at 6 p.m. doing an in-store "breakbeat journey." The accomplished DJ/producer has worked with Ronnie Jordan, Apache Indian, Ananda Shankar, Massive Attack and members of Asian Dub Foundation. He's currently being courted by Madonna's Maverick Records and the Beastie Boys' label Grand Royal.
Oh man. On Thursday Nov. 9, Jojo Flores celebrates his birthday in style at what will no doubt be a wicked night at the newly transplanted Therapy at Jello. For starters, they're bringing in vocalist Kenny Bobien for a live performance. Kenny's vocals have graced tracks with Lauryn Hill ("To Zion"), Mondo Grosso, Teddy Pendergrass ("Believe in Love"), Ten City and Masters at Work. On top of that, DJ Jerome Sydenham--the founder of Ibadan Records who's known for his collaborations with Joe Claussell and Kerri Chandler--will be dropping science in the main room with Jojo, Chris Pronovost, B'Ugo Dahlin & Misago. A separate room will house a support group of DJs consisting of Eddie Lewis, Quest, Toddy Flores, Brass Knuckles, Zo & Rocket Rechad. Doors are at 9 p.m. and tickets are available at Rotation and Inbeat.
An organization called Blueprint 4 Life is conducting what they call Canada's first ever hip hop Olympics in Toronto on Saturday, Dec. 30. All elements of the culture will be represented and anyone interested in taking part in this event, which will include participants from all over the world, should get in touch with L.A. at (416) 654-6421. For more info on the Olympics, run a quick eye by their Web site at www.blueprint4lifemag.com. All interested parties must register by Nov. 23.
Lastly, Sekondhand Projects brings you the third piece in the now-annual Beats on Wheels fundraising party. "Three the Hard Way" jumps off Nov. 7 at Blizzarts with A-Trak, Dave 1 and Simahlak, Mayser, Stak Money and Sakewon, not to mention Blast, Azar and Orion. :
