Popped-up video
by Genevieve Paiement "They can be kind of absurd and funny and at times disturbing," says Nelson Henricks, local video artist/curator of the Sicilian video collective Cane CapoVolto (which translates as "Dog Upside-Down"). "Like their Evil and Pop Culture where Elvis and ABBA videos are intercut with footage of plastic surgery, alluding to the invasion of pop music by Satanism." Cane CapoVolto's Plagium series consists of "fake documentaries" made up of found footage. "This type of work is very rare in Italy, where a lot goes into preserving the patrimony," says Henricks. All the more reason to spread the word here. The series screens at the NFB cinema Oct. 21, 3 p.m. for free and at Articule (4001 Berri) until Nov. 12. : |
