Women on the march!
>>

Their goals are ambitious indeed: an end to the practices of "neo-liberal globalization and exclusion." But over 5,000 organizations in 157 countries and territories around the globe have rallied to the call of the World March for Women.
The project began on a much smaller scale in 1995, when the Federation des femmes du Quebec first held the Bread and Roses march to Quebec City. Since June, protests have been held by women's groups everywhere from Australia to Senegal. And this Saturday, Oct. 14, marks the end of the week-long chain of events in Quebec. A rally that includes theatrical and musical entertainment will be held in Jeanne-Mance Park starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by a march culminating in a moment of silence to commemorate victims of violence.
The World March for Women will then take on the UN--delegates will meet with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on the International Day for the Elimination of Poverty, being held in New York on Oct. 17.
