Belgian boogie
by Marites Carino
If you want to shell out for a dance show this fall, here's one to see. Belgian choreographer Wim Vandkeybus brings his company Ultima Vez to Montreal for the third time. The company's most recent work, In Spite of Wishing and Wanting, features 11 men exploring the subconscious and playing with the desire of transformation, and how that desire moves from being internal to external.
The choreography is based on a surreal short story by Julio Cortazar, where a man peddles screams and emotion on the streets. The show uses film and music by Talking Heads co-founder David Byrne, who has collaborated with other choreographers such as Twyla Tharp. Another interesting note: one of the dancers, Said Gharbi, is blind.
Oct. 12-13, 8 p.m. At the Salle Pierre-Mercure in the Centre Pierre P éladeau (300 de Maisonneuve E.), $30-38.
