Rubber chicken curry

I always said that Nantha Kumar was a little funny, but this is taking things one step further. Nantha's Cuisine is morphing once again from staple Plateau eatery, to upstairs night-time hip-spot, and now to comedy place on the Main. One Night Stand happens on the last Thursday of every month, hosting the comedians, writers, actors and spoken word artists that will hopefully make you bust a gut. The first show, taking place on Thursday, Sept. 28, will feature Terence Bowman (the Vestibules), Angloman creator Mark Shainblum, the Bionic Yahoos, JP Bonnet, Craig Francis, Sonali Karnick, Ryan Murphy and Mike Patterson. Proceeds from the show will go to Santropol Roulant, with tickets at a ripe $5.

As part of Usine C's free post-performance shows during the Festival international de nouvelle danse, you may want to check out Wednesday nights form Sept. 27 to Nov. 25. The space will host DJs Mateo and Pheek (Sept. 27), DJ Maues (Oct. 4), Gordon Field (Oct. 11), Mighty Kat (Oct. 18) and a special guest TBA for Oct 25. Usine C is located at 1345 Lalonde. For more info call 287-1423.

Brace yourself, because what follows is probably the largest organized event featuring nothing but québécois hip hop that you've seen in a long while. MTL Foundation presents Colloque du hip hop québécois, Oct. 6-8 at Zest (4297 Ontario E., 380-8111).

The October 6 bill features 01 Etranji, H.C.O., Meche, B.U. the Knowledgist, L'Yncompriz, Black Phoenix and X-Matik, all hosted by Dirty Taz. The October 7 lineup features Traumaturges, Fang, Chance Won, Mercenair, Verbalist, Metal Storm, Apo, Mista Snake, and your host C-Drik. The October 8 closing night showcases Connaisseur & Mechant Style, Northern Light, Dirty Taz, O.R.S., Afrodziak, SGA, and my favourites, Delicate Altercation. This last one's hosted by Psykopas.

You also might want to check out Hip Hop sans dessus dessous on Sept. 29 at Metropolis from 1-5 p.m. The afternoon event will house a series of hip hop culture events including breakdancing, beatboxing, live MCs, painting, poetry, video and more. For more info call 790-1245.

Those of you familiar with the fundraiser Beats on Wheels will be happy to know that the third installment of the party with a cause is in its planning stages. Slated for a date in early November at Blizzarts, organizers Kevin Dobie and Paul Labonté hope to create a bursary this year to benefit a Concordia Communications Student who is in financial need. If you want to get involved with this event, call Paul at 334-8549.
