The art in party

>>

by Genevieve Paiement

Black & Blue is not just about partying half-naked, so hard, over 72 hours, that you can't see straight for a week. In a roundabout way, it's also about art. "I thought it would be cool to get artists involved to raise money for AIDS," says Kat Couric. Couric is a local artist and curator/organizer of the BBCM (Bad Boy Club of Montreal)'s fourth annual B&B Art Exhibition & Auction. "If you look at the roster of names in the exhibit, there are very diverse people involved: actors, playwrights, doctors, painters and sculptors, from here, New York, Washington, Miami and beyond." People like Montrealers Danielle Bédard, TV show Sortie Gaie's "Pablo Van Momo," (André Montmorency) and D.C.'s Moody Mustafa. Quebec's Gay Archives donated an Alan B. Stone photo.

Couric is also the director of an awareness-raising campaign called The Party Needs You, "meaning if you go and take too many drugs, it's not a party anymore, it's sorrow," Couric says. "It's to educate people about the various dangers of party drugs (especially if you're HIV-positive) and other health issues." The auction takes place next Sunday, Oct. 8, 4 p.m. at Hotel Gouverneur (Place Dupuis, 1415 St-Hubert). Info: 875-7026. :
