On now at the Montreal Telegraph Gallery is a series of paintings entitled L'anecdote à l'oeuvre, by artist Marie-Josée Perreault. The subject is essentially the same throughout: a woman in a white shirt, seen from above, cut off at the waist, floating in a field of colour. In some works, she holds an object in her hands. The highly detailed paintings showcase Perreault's drawing skills; they are deftly executed in a highly realistic (yet totally surreal) style. At 206 de l'Hopital, until Sept. 5.
