Dance on a deadline

By MARITES CARINO

The series is called Les Laboratoires choréographiques and it brings together five choreographers, five composers and a dozen dancers at L'Agora de la danse for five unique shows.

Venezuelan-born founder and director of dance company Flak, José Navas has concocted the concept of this end-of-summer show, which lets the public peek into the artists' creative processes.

Navas has assembled musicians and local, German and Venezuelan choreographers such as Deborah Dunn, Noah Gelber and Jane Mappin to participate in this week-long workshop. The artists have 24 hours to come up with a creation, and every night showcases the fruits of the artists' daily workshops, followed by a discussion. As the project's conductor, Navas will choose the different themes. And with a dozen dancers to play with, the results should be promising. Les Laboratoires choréographiques at Agora de la danse Monday, Aug. 28 to Friday, Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. $6 for a single performance or $25 for the five nights. Call 525-1500 for info.
