Habitat for Humanity The U.S.-born, non-profit organization that builds homes for low-income families worldwide is about to launch its Quebec affiliate's largest development. The plan calls for 14 two-storey row houses to be erected on Sebastopol in Point St-Charles, allowing impoverished Montrealers to live with dignity. Montreal's executive committee is allowing the group to purchase the 16,000 square-foot lot for a fraction of its value, and HfH is relying on donated materials and labour to complete the $800,000 project. Put on your Kodiaks.

Wayward buses What could be worse than a busload of dopey-grinned tourists staring through tinted glass as they snake through Montreal streets? How about the same bus barrelling down on you while the driver pumps uselessly at the brakes? Spot checks on local tour buses by the SAAQ had four in 10 buses pulled off the road because of faulty brake adjusters that could make it difficult to stop on hills or steep inclines. Not the ideal scenario in a city built around a mountain.
