Frisco disco freakout

by KRISTA

Appropriately enough, this year's Gay Pride week seems to have taken on a San Francisco theme, perhaps as a sort of homage to that magical city's very prominent and prosperous gay community. As luck would have it, there are three DJs and one band from San Fran-disco playing in conjunction with Divers/Cité. Tonight, Thursday, Aug. 3, David Harness, resident at Club Universe in SF, joins jojoflores in the blue room at Tokyo for Therapy. As well, David will be playing outdoors on Sunday night at the Groove Stage and then later at the Zenith Party at Fusion (formerly Playground).

On Friday, Aug. 4, another favourite Frisco kid gets behind the decks at Stereo. Mark Farina, of the famed Mushroom Jazz and San Francisco Sessions series, is back for the first time in over a year and totally primed for a night of turning it out. Sport the comfy shoes and wear something light--the place is going to heat up. $20 at the door.

On Saturday Aug. 5, locals Gino Gabreile and Quicksound will join San Fran love children Dubtribe and DJ Corey Black at Club Sky for what promises to be a unique musical experience. It's been too long since Montreal has had a good old-fashioned love-in with Sunshine and Moonbeam Jones, and for this occasion Sky will be staying open all night long to accommodate an eight-hour live set by the duo, followed by a DJ set from Corey. The doors open at 10 p.m. and tix are $17.

Important! Presale tickets for this year's Cream festival will be on sale for one day only, Saturday, Aug. 5, at either Aritmetik in les Cours Mont Royal or the Olympic Stadium box office. There are only 2,000 $40 presale tix available, and with your purchase you get an official Cream CD mixed by the magnificent Max Graham. Who's camping out?

Progressive breaks scientist Adam Freeland (of the Tectonics mix CD series) hits the decks at Sona on Friday, Aug. 4. Prepare yourself for some fuel-injected funk. $20 at the door. Next Wednesday, Aug. 9, Bombay and Karma present the U.K.'s The End DJ/producer Mr. C at Living--total tech-house mayhem. And, finally (there is a God), Jai Bar and Biscuithead Productions are starting up an all-girl DJ night. The launch takes place next Thursday, Aug. 10, and (to use a very old and poor joke) the chicks with decks will be DJ Emmelie, DJ Renée and myself. However, the night will feature a rotating roster of girls from Montreal and across the globe. Open bar for ladies until midnight... and boys can come too. Get some! :
