R.I.P. Abilio Carreira

For most of you, his name says nothing, but La Cabane is the restaurant he founded in 1983.

Abilio Carreira passed away on Tuesday, July 11, in his home town of Barrenta, Portugal. He started out with steak and pork sandwiches made on a small grill and most importantly, he served alcohol. I hear that in those days people used to line up and wait for a seat. It has been many years since Mr. Carreira let his sons Rui, Amerigo and, most recently, Martin take over his business. But he still came by to sit at the bar and smile at everyone, even George.

I just want people to know that the quality of the food and the warm atmosphere was created by a great man who should be remembered on the Main.
