The dream life of Angel
The backdrop of nit-picky squabbling over language laws and anglo-franco relations can make it hard for jaded Montrealers to see their city as a harmonious metropolis. Often it takes an outsider to offer a fresh perspective.
Angel Orensanz, international jet-set artist of Spanish origin and founder of New York City's Orensanz Foundation, has created a public sculpture named Harmony for Montreal, as an ode to what he considers this city's "virtually unparalleled harmony." The piece was commissioned by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Orensanz describes it as "an intense forest, bundled together tightly, yet diversified and colourful."
The sculpture, which stands in the Parc de la Main (corner of St-Laurent and de Maisonneuve), is a result of Orensanz's reflection on Montreal's "many cultural roots, its balance between nature and architecture, tradition and modernity and its atmosphere of being a bridge between North America and Europe." An unveiling of the piece takes place this Tuesday, July 25, 5 p.m., at the Parc de la Main, in the presence of the artist. :
