Bill Lee >>Long before the Expos were steeped in financial woes, Bill "Spaceman" Lee spent four seasons on the mound, a bearded, counterculture Buddha, contemplating human decency and the perfect pitch. His career record may not be enough for Cooperstown, but the California-based Baseball Reliquary looks beyond stats for the unique characters that contributed to the betterment of the game and society. Lee, who blamed the loss of baseball's innocence on "planet-polluting owners," and was fined for saying he liked to sprinkle marijuana on his buckwheat pancakes, was easily voted in to the Reliquary's Shrine of the Eternals.

Toxic Clouds >> A fire at the Regent Chemical Products plant in Vaudreuil-Dorion last Sunday led to the evacuation of 8,000 St-Lazare residents as westward winds blew a cloud of hydrochloric and sulphuric acids, as well as other toxic substances, toward the community. After neutralizing chemical deposits with lime--a practice which has no effect on tequila--officials deemed the clean-up a total success without environmental effect. However, they are advising that any produce pulled from the garden be thoroughly washed--just in case. The Mirror will monitor the abnormally homogenous suburbanites for signs of further mutation.
