That History Channel comes out with the zaniest boxed-set ideas! Out this month on video and DVD is Great Blunders of WWII, a look back at silly mistakes made by people during the war. What a fool Hitler was to declare war on the U.S.! Those Brits were crazy to retreat from Dunkirk! Witness the details of these and other blunders here. It's all a pretty straightforward treatment, true to typical History Channel fodder. Guessing from the title, I was hoping for something a bit different. Really, why don't they have a Greatest Bloopers of WWII boxed set yet? We could see outtakes from the speeches of Hitler, Churchill and Roosevelt as they stumble over words or start to break out laughing. Or we could be treated to shots of soldiers tripping on banana peels. Why hasn't this boxed set been created yet? Memo to History Channel: get on it!

Not to be missed is All About My Mother, Almodovar's superb melodrama, for which the queer director deservedly won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar earlier this year. It's out on video now, and it's one of his best, right up there with Law of Desire and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. :
