The Mirror turns 15!

  • Special 'Anniversary' Motion Picture Purgatory cartoon

Welcome to the Mirror's 15th anniversary edition. Aside from being a chance for the present regime to blow our own horn and throw a party, this week's special issue is meant as a salute to the many people who've had a hand in putting out the paper over the past decade and a half.

Certainly, a multitude of Montrealers have called the Mirror "work" at one time or another. Rabble rousers and rebels, idealists and cranks, pranksters and activists, drag queens and refugees, drug addicts and sex fiends, you name it, they've all passed through the Mirror's doors and tried their hand at producing "alternative journalism."

At its best, the paper has been a reflection of the city. It's been loud, brash and controversial, not to mention shrill, accusatory and inky. It hasn't always been right and, indeed, some of its mistakes have been spectacular, but one thing is certain: the Mirror has been out there on the streets every Thursday, giving you something to look at and think about for free.

The following retrospective is far from definitive, and we apologize to the many people whose contributions have been overlooked. The Mirror, as always, is a work in progress.

    Thanks for reading.
