Have a cow, man!

A group of around 200 Quebecers dissatisfied with the Quebec government--called "The Citizens Who Speak"--added a fragrant twist to their protest last Sunday on the weekend of the PQ's convention. They brought a cow along. At a "surprise event" in front of city hall, one organizer massaged the cow's anus to try and make it defecate onto a grid. Participants who had bought tickets cheered and even bribed the cow with vegetables to influence her drop spot. The winner of this "cow shit bingo" would get a lamb if the cow dropped its load into the right square.

The groups involved, ranging from rural malcontents to local activists like SalAMI, accuse the PQ of making "a secret agenda with multinationals behind closed doors."

Event organizers expected a bigger turnout for the bingo demo. "We got 200, but we wanted 1,000," said Jacques Laval, of the Coalition des citoyens et citoyennes du Val St-Francois.

But the big disappointment was that Daisy never went potty. So organizers blindfolded a guy and he dropped some previously produced Daisy dung himself--which they just happened to have handy--on the grid. : --Craig Segal
